The Leesa Plus Hybrid is one of only a handful of mattresses on the market designed specifically for people with a higher body weight. It is 13 inches tall, has a sturdy base, and features a balanced, medium firm (6) feel.

Made with a mix of foam layers and pocketed coils, the Leesa Plus Hybrid is intended to support a weight of up to 1,000 pounds. The layered materials help relieve pressure around the joints and encourage neutral spinal alignment during sleep.

We evaluated the Leesa Plus Hybrid in our Test Lab, focusing on key performance metrics like motion isolation, pressure relief, and temperature control. We analyzed the bed’s comfort and support for sleepers with different weights and sleep positions.

In this review, we go over the results of our hands-on testing and cover other essential information to help you decide if the Leesa Plus Hybrid is right for you.

Testing Team Takeaways

To test the Leesa Plus Hybrid Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

I was a fan of how balanced and complete this mattress felt. It wasn’t exceedingly soft, but it had the right level of cushioning for my joints.

Side Sleepers

We found that the Leesa Plus Hybrid is a solid option for side sleepers, particularly those who weigh at least 130 pounds.

The mattress has sturdy pushback and light cushioning that cradles pressure points like the hips and shoulders. For side sleepers, this means the ability to settle in comfortably without sinking excessively into the mattress.

The Leesa Plus Hybrid was designed for people with a higher body weight, so we weren’t surprised to find that it performed well among people over 230 pounds. In contrast, some side sleepers under 130 pounds found the mattress to be a bit too firm.

Back Sleepers

During our tests, back sleepers were impressed with the Leesa Plus Hybrid’s ability to support healthy spinal alignment and comfort around the lower back. The mattress received its highest ratings from testers who weigh at least 130 pounds.

In the hybrid design, three layers of polyfoam gently contour to the body, while thick coils offer steadiness that prevents pronounced sinkage. This is crucial for back sleepers because they need a relatively flat surface that can also cushion the lumbar spine.

Stomach Sleepers

Based on our testing, the Leesa Plus Hybrid works well for many stomach sleepers even though it lacks ideal firmness for many of them.

To maintain a neutral spinal position, stomach sleepers need a mattress that’s firm enough to support their midsection and prevent the hips from sinking down into the bed. During our tests, stomach sleepers under 130 pounds were most likely to get this level of support from the Leesa Plus Hybrid.

Stomach sleepers weighing at least 130 pounds said that the mattress provided sufficient support, but many wished it had a firmer surface that could offer even more pushback to enable a flat and even posture.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7 / 10

“The Leesa Plus Hybrid doesn’t perfectly absorb vibrations, which might be an issue if you wake up easily and share a bed with someone who is constantly tossing and turning.” – Jackson

We found that the Leesa Plus Hybrid offers average motion isolation for a hybrid mattress.

The foam layers and pocketed coils work to reduce how much vibration ripples across the bed, but there’s a degree of bounciness that makes some motion transfer inevitable.

Based on our testing, we don’t think this will pose an issue for most couples or co-sleepers, but it could be a drawback for people who are easily stirred from sleep by movement in their bed.

Pressure Relief

8 / 10

“For a mattress built to be sturdy and robust, I was impressed with how well the Leesa Plus Hybrid could accommodate my hips and shoulders.” – Brad

Our testing team gave high marks to the Leesa Plus Hybrid for its ability to relieve pressure and promote healthy spinal alignment.

The top foam layers are most responsible for cushioning the body, adapting to the body’s weight and pressure. The bottom layers, including the coils, help create balance by resisting excess sinkage.

Taken together, this combination allows the Leesa Plus Hybrid to meet a high standard for pressure relief that works for sleepers of many different body types and sleeping positions.

Temperature Control

7 / 10

“In my experience, the Leesa Plus Hybrid seemed to stay at a normal temperature. It may have gotten a bit warmer through the night, but I didn’t have any problems with overheating.” – Mary

The Leesa Plus Hybrid does a good job of resisting heat buildup. The types of foams in the comfort system, including the gel-infused top layer, seem to minimize the heat retention issues that can affect many other foam materials. The coils also provide space for ventilation that can keep the mattress from getting too hot.

People who are very hot sleepers may want a mattress with more elaborate cooling features, but our testing suggests that most people will have no issues staying at a comfortable temperature on the Leesa Plus Hybrid.

Edge Support

8 / 10

“Strong edge support was one of the things I liked most about this mattress. Whether sitting or lying down near the edge, I felt stable and secure.” – Jackson

We found the Leesa Plus Hybrid offers impressive edge support, making it ideal for individuals who want to use the entire surface area of their mattress or who often sit on the edge of the bed.

This perimeter support can be attributed to reinforced coils that run along the perimeter of the mattress. These coils, along with the denser support foams, help maintain a dependable edge without bothersome sagging.

Ease of Movement

6.5 / 10

“I wouldn’t say it was hard to move on the Leesa Plus Hybrid, but it didn’t feel like the mattress helped with switching between sleeping positions.” – Mary

Our testers found that the Leesa Plus Hybrid was average or slightly below average for ease of movement. Although the mattress doesn’t significantly impede movement, it doesn’t have the springiness that you find in many hybrid or innerspring mattresses.

None of our combination sleepers felt that this was a serious problem, but it may be a consideration for people who want a mattress that feels like it gives you a little push when you adjust your body’s position.

Off-Gassing

7 / 10

“As with basically every mattress that has foam layers, there’s a chemical smell when you first cut away the plastic from the Leesa Plus Hybrid. I didn’t find the odor too strong, and it went away within a few days.” – Brad

Upon unboxing the Leesa Plus Hybrid, our testers noted an odor that is similar to what you find in most other foam hybrids or all-foam mattresses. The odor may be especially noticeable to individuals who are sensitive to smells.

Off-gassing doesn’t pose any health risk, and the smell should dissipate within a couple of days – especially if your bedroom has good ventilation.

Leesa Plus Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Leesa Plus Hybrid has a firmness level of medium firm (6), and its profile is 13 inches thick. It is built with a mix of pocketed coils and layers of foam intended to provide essential cushioning and support, especially for people with a higher body weight.

On the exterior, the breathable cover of the Leesa Plus Hybrid is composed of polyester and viscose. There are two handles on each side to make the mattress easier to move and reposition.

Beneath the cover is a 1-inch layer of gel-infused polyfoam that provides immediate cushioning when you lie down. The gel in this layer is designed to keep heat from building up around the body.

A second layer of polyfoam measures 2 inches tall and offers a combination of contouring and bounce, and a third 1-inch layer of polyfoam works to prevent the body from sinking too deeply into the mattress.

The support core features an 8-inch layer of coils that generate sturdy support. The coils are individually wrapped so that they can compress independently of the adjacent coils. This helps reduce motion transfer and noise compared to a traditional innerspring mattress. Beneath the coils is a thin layer of high-density polyfoam that provides foundational stability.

Trial, Warranty, and Shipping Policies

Availability

The Leesa Plus Hybrid is available to shoppers in the United States and Canada. It can be purchased on Leesa’s website or from one of Leesa’s retail partners, though in-store availability may vary.

Shipping

Leesa ships mattresses for free to all 50 states. Shipping to Canada is available for $250 per mattress.

All Leesa beds are made to order in about three to seven business days. Once your new mattress is complete, Leesa compresses, seals, and boxes it for shipping. Shipping times typically range between two and seven business days.

On delivery day, the box with the mattress will be left at your doorstep. When you’re ready to set up your new bed, move the box to the bedroom of your choice. Remove the compressed mattress from the box and position it on your bed frame. Remove the outer layer of plastic, unroll the mattress, and allow it to expand. It will take about an hour to fully expand and possibly several more days to achieve its full shape and firmness.

Keep in mind the Leesa Plus Hybrid is relatively heavy, so you may need two people to lift the box and position the mattress.

Additional Services

For an additional fee, you can add in-home mattress setup and old mattress removal at checkout. With this White Glove service, the mattress is still delivered to your home in a box, but a service provider will arrange to come to your home to install the mattress and remove your old one.

Sleep Trial

Leesa offers a 100-night trial for the Plus Hybrid, with a required 30-night break-in period to allow time to adjust to the new mattress. If you’re unsatisfied after this period, you can initiate a return by contacting Leesa’s support team.

In most cases, Leesa will help you donate the mattress to a local charity. If a donation isn’t feasible, Leesa will assist with the return logistics. The mattress must be returned in clean, undamaged condition. Returns are free in the contiguous U.S., but Leesa charges a $100 fee for returns from Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada.

Warranty

The Leesa Plus Hybrid comes with a lifetime warranty. This warranty covers defects in the materials but does not cover natural softening of the foam or any damage resulting from misuse of the mattress.

The company will repair or replace any defective mattress, but you may be responsible for transportation or shipping costs. Repairs and replacements are free for the first 10 years. After that, you’ll pay a prorated fee representing the original mattress price that increases annually through year 20.
